Fiberglass, known for its durability and flexibility, is a preferred material for swimming pools due to its smooth, non-porous surface. These pools are meticulously crafted using a 10-stage process, layering fiberglass with Vinyl Ester Resin and additional strengtheners for enhanced strength and durability. Embedded vertical support beams further ensure structural integrity, and the finished pools are shipped as a single piece to the installation site.
During installation, the process begins with precise marking of the pool layout on the ground, followed by excavation and preparation of the hole according to specific dig sheet instructions. Unlike sand, a base layer of crushed limestone or gravel is used to provide a stable foundation, particularly in areas with high water saturation like Houston. The pool is then carefully positioned and plumbed before backfilling with gravel or sand to maintain pressure equilibrium.
The final installation steps involve filling the pool with water, plumbing the surrounding area, and pouring the pool deck. Installation of coping, which connects the pool's edge to the patio, follows the deck pouring. This process typically takes two to five days, depending on the complexity of the job
Concrete, also known as Gunite, has remained a popular choice for pool construction in Texas until recent years. Understanding the meticulous steps involved in installing a concrete/ Gunite pool is crucial for those considering this option. The process begins with excavating the pool area according to design specifications, allowing extra space for surfacing and a perimeter work area.
Next, plumbing is meticulously installed, including a drain and ensuring proper water flow throughout the pool. A steel rebar grid is then placed around the pool's interior to define features like steps and benches, providing stability for the concrete. The Gunite application follows, where a dry mixture of sand and concrete is sprayed onto the rebar frame, forming the walls and floor of the pool. The thickness varies based on pool size and shape, with workers smoothing and shaping it for a polished finish.
Once the Gunite is applied, it undergoes a curing process for up to a month, during which it's regularly hosed down to aid in the curing process. After curing, decking, plumbing, and decorative elements are added, including coping, the pool's decorative edge. Finally, plaster is applied to waterproof the pool and create a smooth surface, completing the construction process. Overall, Gunite pool construction typically takes 75 to 90 days, accounting for local specifications and potential weather delays.
